Bohemian Dining Room on a budget...

Today I am sharing with you some pictures of my dining room.  I painted the walls with a technique I found on HGTV called color washing. I thought it would best fit the homes age and the fact that I have hairline cracks in the wall, it would make sense. I knew when I purchased this house last year that I would not gut it and put up "sheet rock". I love the feel the paint gives this room. This is a large room so I needed to make sure I had enough furniture to fill it but not clutter the room.  It has an area where I have my little inside garden with a reading chair...my self made wall unit...and then my ever growing wall collection.  The wall collection is mostly of deer antlers I found at flea markets or local thrift stores.  A few wall mask, an aztec calender I purcased on etsy and a few other found objects that caught my eye.  If you look at the corner blue table, you can see my little elephants...I collect those too.  (Please don't mind the wires sticking out bottom left corner, as we are having electric work done to the house.)

Let's start with the dining room table...that was a custom made table that someone else ordered and then changed their mind so they did not purchase it.  I found it in the bottom floor of a barn....SCORE!  and it came with the bench...I know crazy right.  The set of four beautiful wood chairs with the scroll work on the back are from the transfer station - so they were FREE (some soap and water, a little bees wax and they were brand new)...the other two chairs were purchased from the local thrift store for about $2 each.

If you look at my plants the huge planter by the window...was also found at the transfer station, the other mosaic planter is from IKEA...cheetah print chair was purchased from craigslist for $50. My stereo was from my local thrift store and I purchased it for $8.  The curtains were purchased on clearance for $5 each...Now, if you take a look at my ceiling... yes it is a purple-ish blue but not periwinkle.  I am stenciling by hand a morrocan pattern I purchased from etsy.  I try to do one panel per day since it does put some stress on my neck...so by doing one per day it's alot easier.  I love birds but have not had luck taking care of them so I decided to get a small birdcage which you see if white and then put a red (fake) birdie inside.  It looks so real...

These last set of pictures are from different views of the dining room...this house is a work in progress...with a total of seventeen rooms, I will be decorating it for a long time...I will update pictures once the ceiling and crown molding are complete.

3.5 mile run...

I got up this morning and kept my word...I ran 3.5 miles OUTSIDE...yay!  It was hard, but it was not as hard as race day.  I kept a nice pace and concentrated on keeping it.  I used my new stop watch so that also helped for me not only pace myself but to push a little harder so I can make good time.  I have such a sense of accomplishment...it's awesome when you set a goal and you actually meet it.  Now that all of the adreline is out of my body...I am SORE  oh gosh!!!  I followed up my run by going to the gym and working with kettle bells.  I like them alot better than the standard free weights, because you are incorporating some cardio in the workout too.  I definitely need a nap, but I have some pictures to take so I can list a few items on etsy...then I am off to watch my daughter play softball...hopefully it doesn't rain!

I will post the etsy items separately a little later...

My First 5K Race...

I entered my very first 5K this past weekend. I have been working out five days a week for a year now, so I figured I could step it up a notch and do the 5k and it was benefiting a schools library....etc.  I survived the race...finished with a time of 33:09 which for me I thought was a bit disappointing.  I wanted to finish under 30 mins.  It was so hard and fustrating at the same time.  I run 15 miles per week, but I run on the treadmill not outside.  It was totally different and that is why it effected my time.  I went out and brought a stop watch and I am going for my first outside run tomorrow.  Let's see what I clock! Stay tuned...I will be running more 5k's for sure but my time will be much better next time.

Here are some pics of race day...

The starting line...

Me and my friend Ehren (who's also a personal trainer). She finished in 25 mins.

As you can see I was a bit winded and tired...(I am wearing black)

Crossing the finish line...

I'll keep you posted tomorrow on my run...

Thrifting 101

One of my biggest passions that I would like to share with you is thrifting...I am totally addicted. It started at the early age of 10 yrs old. It's part of who I am. Anyhow, thru thrifting I have learned you can repurpose and bring new love to things that wind up at the" transfer station"...check out my pictures of my version of a wall unit made entirely from old wooden crates, a metal pull cart...mostly 85% of the items you see in the photos are things my hubby and I found at the transfer station...including the telescope and the gorgeous huge gold mirror (yeah someone thru that out, go figure).

here are a few more shots...this wall unit is in my dinning room! I love it.

here are a few more views...

I like to know what your decorating tips are too...?

Sticking to my list

I have made a decision to stick with posting daily on my blog...not really sure how that's going to work out since I am so busy most of the day but I think if I really try - I can make it work. Today I will be posting some really awesome ponchos that I made...one is entirely made of denim with tons of fringe and fraying. The other is made of recycled sweater and denim...they are both really cool! I hope to have some pictures posted later today...

Back to my list...I make list all of the time, most of the time I stick with them and follow them. I like being organized but since I moved here to the country a few years back, I sort of became super laid back and let things just happen when they happen...totally not me but it became me. I am now trying to really focus and fine the old me or just part of that so I can be more organized and a bit more responsible.

Do you make any list ? What do you do to make yourself organized...?
